New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, is not at all happy with the state of Texas for sending up buses chock full of illegal migrants to his city, making the claim that they are currently struggling to handle the influx of individuals.
Guess what, Mayor Adams?
That’s the point.
Southern border states like Texas and Arizona are also struggling to handle the current influx of illegal migrants crossing the border. The point of sending these buses is so that folks like Adams and those in Washington, D.C., get a taste of what it is like to have these individuals constantly crossing the border in massive waves.
Perhaps with enough pressure, Democrats will abandon their little demographics project and actually secure the border and enforce immigration law?
I know. Wishful thinking, right?
According to The Daily Wire, on Sunday morning, Adams met the second bus full of migrants sent up from the state of Texas. The New York City mayor, who ran for the office he now occupies by making a promise to keep New York a “sanctuary city,” tore into Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott over transporting the immigrants to his city.
“This is horrific when you think about what [Abbott] is doing,” Adams stated while giving remarks during a press conference. “New York is a city that has always represented democratic values. Showing our values. That’s what we’re doing today.”
“It is unimaginable what the governor of Texas has done,” he exclaimed. “When you think about this country, a country that has always been open to those who are fleeing persecution and other intolerable conditions.”
“We’ve always welcomed that. And this governor is not doing that in Texas,” he went on to add. “But we are going to set the right message and the right tone of being here for these families.”
Abbott had stated that “New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city.”
“I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief,” Abbott went on to say.
Truth be told, what’s really aggravating Adams is that someone is legitimately calling on him to fulfill his promise, holding him accountable for the words he spoke about keeping his city a sanctuary city.
“The Abbott administration has maintained it has only sent two buses to New York City. Meanwhile, the Biden administration has also sent buses and planes of illegal aliens around the country while releasing more than one million into the country,” the Daily Wire reported.
Manuel Castro, who is serving as the city’s immigrant affairs commissioner, spoke with reporters saying that the city is not able to handle the thousands of folks rolling into town and need to have assistance come in from the federal government.
“Our budgets are impacted because no one plans for [4,000] or [5,000] or 6,000 or even more people to arrive, so they need a shelter,” Castro went on to say during a chat with the Gothamist. “And so of course, that’s the assistance we are seeking the federal government to step in.”
Castro then stated that Texas isn’t giving them any warning as to when buses might arrive.
“Frankly, they’re not communicating, coordinating at all,” Castro told the New York City-based outlet. “This is meant to be disruptive, and that’s unfortunate. Because we’re talking about people’s lives.”
Adams made some similar claims during his press conference Sunday.
“They’re not letting us know when the buses are leaving. They’re not letting us know what are the needs of the people on the bus,” Adams said. “They are not giving us any information, so we’re unable to really provide the service to people en route.”
Adams’ also complained that officials in Texas were sending folks to New York City against their will.
“We’re finding that some of the families are on the bus that wanted to go to other locations, and they were not allowed to do so,” Adams complained. “They were forced on the bus with the understanding that they were going to other locations that they wanted to go to, and when they tried to explain they were not allowed to do so.”
