Well, it seems the woke folks — nice rhyme, right? — are out to once again dabble in a little revisionist history as a brand spanking new play about Joan of Arc is portraying the saint of France as being “gender neutral,” having her use “they/them” pronouns, as part of a production that is said to be, and I kid you not, “alive, queer and full of hope.”
Can someone please explain to me why the left does this garbage? Why can’t you just make your play historically accurate? Why does a strong woman who serves God and becomes a fierce warrior automatically have to stop being a female and be something else? Isn’t that slighting women? I just don’t get how this woke nonsense works.
And you know what? I don’t think I want to know either.
According to a report from The Daily Wire, The famous Globe Theater in London is all set to host this new play, “I, Joan,” which is scheduled to open on August 25 and will run through October.
“A cry for courage erupts in the Globe Theatre this summer with the premiere of I, Joan, a powerful and joyous new play which tells Joan of Arc’s story anew,” the website prattles on about the new production.
The real story of Joan of Arc would provide all of the thematic material folks could ever ask for, and yet, the individuals behind this monstrosity believe it has to be changed because wokeness is the new lens through which the masses see the world.
It’s actually not, but that’s what progressives think. Or what they are trying to force into being.
“The men are all fighting, again. An endless war. From nowhere, an unexpected leader emerges. Young, poor and about to spark a revolution. This is Joan. Rebelling against the world’s expectations, questioning the gender binary, Joan finds their power and their belief spreads like fire,” the site continued.
That is so dang cringe. I’m literally, in real life, cringing. I don’t think I can handle any more of this. Please, for the love of all that is good and holy in this world. Let it stop.
“Join us in the wooden ‘O’ and feel the heat of the sun and the pulse of Joan’s passion,” the synopsis went on to say. “With open hearts and raised voices, dance and cheer with us as we rediscover Joan’s story. It’s alive, queer and full of hope.”
I may vomit now. Thanks for that. Really. No, I mean it. Thank you for making me waste a meal.
Here are more details from The Daily Wire:
Artistic Director Michelle Terry says the presentation of Joan as gender neutral is not unprecedented. She said “they/them” pronouns are consistent with history “as early as 1375,” per a statement on identity in “I, Joan.”
“We are not the first to present Joan in this way, and we will not be the last. We can’t wait to share this production with everyone and discover this cultural icon,” The Globe shared on Twitter.
Our new play I, Joan shows Joan as a legendary leader who uses the pronouns ‘they/them’. We are not the first to present Joan in this way, and we will not be the last. Frank Furedi, an emeritus professor at the University of Kent, told The Times that the play was “rewriting history” and that the play was an example of “a fantasy backwards.”
“Someone like Joan of Arc would not have any idea what non-binary was. It is a recharacterisation of something that did not even exist at the time,” Furedi went on to say during an interview with the publication about the play.
Hey. Not only did that not exist at the time, it really doesn’t exist today either. Just because the radical left wants to embrace mental illness and live in a fantasy world they made up in their heads doesn’t make it real or true for the rest of us who actually reside in reality.
The Globe went on to write that it is “unequivocally pro-human rights” which, according to them, includes “trans people, non-binary people, black and minority ethnic people, and people with disabilities. Trans men and women and non-binary identities exist and are valid.”
Except, of course, that science and sane rationality clearly indicate these are not valid, but hey, whatever, continue to make up a new world.
The Daily Wire says, “Joan of Arc was a military leader who defeated the English at the siege of Orléans during the Hundred Years’ War despite being a young woman at the time. She was captured and burned at the stake as a heretic, though she was later exonerated for her crimes. Joan of Arc was canonized by the Catholic Church in 1920.”
So there you have it.
You are actually witnessing revisionist history happening right before your eyes. Scary isn’t it? What will they try to change next?
