The Tesla billionaire who’s famous for his social media banter sent fans scatty last night when he insinuated that he was planning to buy the acclaimed English soccer team, Manchester United.
Musk, who is facing a potentially very expensive court case with social media giant, Twitter after he canceled the deal to buy the platform at the last minute, said Manchester United had been his favorite sports team as a child.
Taking to Twitter in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Musk wrote that, while supporting the GOP, his political views remain moderate:
“To be clear, I support the left half of the Republican Party and the right hald of the Democratic Party!”
He then randomly added in another Tweet:
“Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome”.

When a Twitter user asked the richest man on the planet if he was serious about buying the club, which is estimated to be worth around $4.6 billion, he replied:
“No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.
Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome

“Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid,” he added.
Musk is infamous for his banter, joking, memes, and wind-ups on Twitter and he often posts bizarre statements just to send the media into meltdown:
“Stand-up is my side hustle,” he joked in a separate Tweet.
His Man U Tweet attracted thousands of comments from soccer fans, with some debating the strategic reasons behind the team’s disastrous start to the Premier League season.
Manchester United, which used to be the long-standing team of winger David Beckham lost 2-1 against relatively small Brighton earlier this month. In the match before, the Reds were thrashed by Brentford, which is worth $400 million to Man U’s $4.6 billion, 4-0.
Although the team owns some of the world’s best soccer players including Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo and England National Squad players, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford, the team has not won a match in the Premier League since May.
The Old Trafford faithful has been left distraught as the team has not won any Premier League match on its home turf since March.
The frustration of the fans was evident in the comments section of Musk’s Tweet.
@biradarsunil wrote that the club was being ruined by its current owners, Joel and Avie Glazer, who also own an NFL team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, before encouraging the Space X CEO to “save” his childhood club:

“Let’s face it, we all knew this was a long standing joke. But in all seriousness, if you were to buy the club, you’d definitely run and manage it better than the drizzle United have at the moment.

Musk recently sold a $6.9 billion slab of Tesla’s shares as his $1 billion divorce fee with Twitter looms in October.
