After Tesla billionaire, Elon Musk announced he had voted Republican for the first time in his life earlier this summer, the outspoken algorithms geek offered his political advice at a GOP dinner in Wyoming.
Dishing out some hot tips to a gathering of GOP donors during a dinner hosted by CEO of Silver Eagle Beverages, John Nau, Musk said that if Republicans wanted to succeed, they must be more “compassionate” to migrants and “stay out of people’s bedrooms”.
The 51-year-old who was born in South Africa was invited to the gala evening in Jackson, Wyoming by House minority leader, Kevin McCathy whose constituency includes Bakersfield, California, where Musk’s SpaceX headquarters is based.
Musk’s comment about staying “out of people’s bedrooms” is ambiguous. He may have meant that politicians should not cheat on their partners or that US politics should not interfere with what consenting adults do in private – perhaps in relation to gay sex or marriage.
Some Republicans like Ted Cruz have actively campaigned against gay people being able to get married. At one point he supported a bill that would criminalize gay sex.
Trump, by contrast, has a growing LGBT support network. During Pride month in 2017, the then president even held up a rainbow flag emblazoned with the words “LGBTs for Trump”.
Musk could also have been referencing the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe Vs Wade which gave women the legal right to have abortions.

After the dinner, Musk took to Twitter to reiterate that he is moderate and insinuated that his political beliefs are not pigeonholed to either political pole:
“To be clear, I support the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democratic Party!,” he Tweeted yesterday evening.
Controversially, when he was asked how the Republicans might draw in more votes, the richest man on the planet said that they should welcome immigrants because they are vital for the economy.

Musk, who was born and bred in South Africa missed the crucial point that Republicans do not want to stop immigration, but merely to be able to control it and ensure those migrating to the US do so legally.
After all, if the hundreds of thousands illegally migrating across the Mexico-US border are that vital for the economy, they’ll have no problem legally obtaining visas!
Musk went on to say that he himself chose to live in America because of the opportunities he knew he would find here.
In June, Musk Tweeted that he had voted Republican for the first time ever in the Texas primary:
“I voted for Mayra Flores – first time I ever voted Republican. Massive red wave in 2022,” he Tweeted.
In the past, he said he had donated to both the GOP and Democrats depending on how closely he felt aligned with their politics at the time.
He also voiced his support for GOP favorite, Florida gov., Ron DeSantis as a possible contender for the 2024 presidential elections, but said he does not support former president Donald Trump, quipping he should, “hang up his hat & sail into the sunset.”
Trump responded by calling Musk a “bullsh-t artist”.
