Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina predicted that if former President Donald Trump is somehow prosecuted for mishandling classified government documents, there will be “riots in the streets.” This is a very, very poor choice of words given what happened at the Capitol back on Jan. 6. It’s the kind of statement that provides the radical left with fodder for their outrage machine.
Just the News reported that the South Carolina Republican stated his prediction during an interview Sunday evening on Fox News, going on to make the argument that prosecuting Trump would be awful due to the fact that Hillary Clinton while serving as secretary of state, was not prosecuted for her own debacle involving classified emails.
That would most definitely be a double standard. But hey, have you ever known Democrats to be consistent in the application of their own beliefs? They will obviously ignore the glaring hypocrisy here in order to nab Trump and prevent him from running for office in 2024. And that was the main goal of this whole thing, now wasn’t it?
“If they try to prosecute President Trump for mishandling classified information after Hillary Clinton set up a server in her basement, there literally will be riots in the street. I worry about our country,” Graham went on to say during his interview on Fox.
According to the report, the National Archives sent out a letter to Trump back in May requesting classified documents. Trump himself stated that he and his legal team were working with the federal government to comply with the request. But again, that part of this is being ignored, in favor of the narrative being pushed by the FBI and leftist media.
“Last week, the government released a heavily redacted version of the affidavit used to secure the search warrant in the FBI’s raid of Trump’s Florida home. The term ‘classified’ appears in the affidavit at least 50 times, and investigators expressed concerns in the filing about the improper handling of sensitive information,” the report said.
Graham should have been much more careful about his word choice here, though the point he’s making is right on the mark. People would definitely be more than a little ticked off if Trump were to be prosecuted. Of course, had Hillary Clinton faced actual consequences for her own bungle with classified documents, that fury would not be so severe.
What really gets people upset is the double standard. Democrats and leftists in other areas of culture are pretty much allowed to do whatever they want, so long as they have the right belief system and a few good connections. If a Republican does the same exact thing, the left demands the head of said individual on a silver platter, a la John the Baptist.
At the very least, if Democrats were consistent, holding their own people to the same standard they seem to hold Republicans to, the divide in this country wouldn’t run quite as deep. Then again, many conservatives believe that’s the point. To divide the country and conquer, transforming it into something wholly unrecognizable to the vision held by our founders. I really hope I’m wrong about it all, but I don’t think I am.
