To respond to an interview featuring her ex-husband Kevin Federline and their two sons, singer Britney Spears posted a statement to them on social media late last week.
Spears’ sons Preston, 16, and Jayden, 15, reportedly reside with Federline, and for months, Spears has not seen them. Her summer wedding to fashion model Sam Asghari was not attended by the boys.
According to the British publication, Spears responded by saying her sons were “abandoning her” and “being cruel” in a now-deleted social media post.
“I 100% think this can be fixed. It’s just going to take a lot of time and effort. I just want her to get better mentally. When she gets better, I really want to see her again,” Jayden said. “I love you a lot, I hope for the best for you. Maybe one day we can sit down like this and talk again.”
After first deleting her Instagram account, Spears later restored it and used it to send a message to her sons.

“I’ve tried my best at being the best person I can be … to be basically held hostage in homes under nurses and bulls***,” Spears wrote. “I hope my kids one day understand my reasoning of my play in water revealing myself as any woman would being held under blankets and supervision under the conservatorship !!! Finally at 40 without the restraints of what my family did to me … I say to my son Jayden that I send all the love in the world to you every day for the rest of my life!!!! My love for my children has no boundaries and it deeply saddens me to know his outcry of saying I wasn’t up to his expectations of a mother … and maybe one day we can meet face to face and talk about this openly!!!! Maybe dear child YOU can explain to me why our family would do that to anyone!!!!”
She went on to explain that she had assisted his jobless father and that she therefore assumed it would be more convenient for them to have no one check on them to see that he was completing his schoolwork. She’s confident that her son’s 15- and 16-year-old self will benefit from his generation’s norm of everyday marijuana use. Having played the perfect part for 15 years for nothing, she said she totally understands his need to live with his father. She’s overjoyed that she’s managed to pull off four tours, judge X Factor, and a whole lot more—all for him.
“And Preston … I’m aware of your gift … I know you’re a teacher in my life and dear child I’m a teacher for you as well !!!” She continued. “It’s horrible to see your dad be a hypocrite and say the media is horrible yet he has you talking about personal matters to them!!! Please take a moment to reflect on your roots!!! I hope you can look in the mirror and remember … I will always consider you my child. Since Preston didn’t speak, I send my love !!! I would love nothing more than to see you two face to face. If you want to be taken seriously as a pianist, keep at it. you and your brother both are brilliant and I’m so proud to call you both mine.”
“As for my mental health … my dear child understand you must learn to pick up a book and read one before you resort to even thinking about my intellect sweetheart !!!” she concluded. “Tell your father to go try and at least mow the lawn … Psss if you can honestly sit back and say with your sensible brilliant mind what memaw and paw paw did to me was fine and call them not bad people … then yes I have failed as a mother and hopefully that’s a chat for you and your father to sit face to face and try to learn WHAT’S GOOD.”
