Liz Truss has beaten rival Rishi Sunak in the Conservative Party leadership race and will now become Britain’s prime minister.
Truss, who is Britain’s third female prime minister vowed to unite the party and secure a “great victory” in the upcoming 2024 general election:
“We all will deliver for our country and I will make sure that we use all the fantastic talents of the Conservative Party, our brilliant Members of Parliament and peers, our fantastic councillors, our MSs, our MSPs, all of our councillors and activists and members right across our country,” said Liz in her speech to party members,
“Because my friends, I know that we will deliver, we will deliver and we will deliver.
“And we will deliver a great victory for the Conservative Party in 2024.”
Members of the Conservative Party had the chance to vote for either Truss or Sunak to become the new leader of the party after Boris Johnson was ousted following a series of media witch hunts.
Johnson was accused of lying to parliament after it emerged he had broken his own lockdown rules by holding a small office gathering on his birthday.
Further questions were raised about the former prime minister’s integrity when one of Johnson’s ministers was accused of groping men in a nightclub.
He was a staunch supporter of Donald Trump and won a landslide victory in Britain after he vowed to finally sign the paperwork that would take Britain out of the European Union.
Truss praised Boris in her victory speech for getting ”Brexit done”. She said:
“I want to thank our outgoing leader, my friend, Boris Johnson.
“Boris, you got Brexit done, you crushed Jeremy Corbyn, you rolled out the vaccine and you stood up to Vladamir Putin. You were admired from Kyiv to Carlisle”.
But after 12 years of Tory rule in Britain, Brexit Party commentators including Nigel Farage have raised concerns about the lack of control of illegal immigration and what Farage deems un-conservative leadership.
Posting to Twitter just after the announcement of Truss’ win, he said:

Speaking to the Telegraph earlier this week, Farage said that he believes the Conservative Party is headed for a major defeat in the next general election because he believes they have lost touch with true conservative politics:
“When you have immigration running, legally and illegally, at the levels you’ve got, there’s no prospect, no hope of integration actually going on.
“And since 2019, we’ve seen legal numbers just spiral.
“I’ve actually got the point where I hope they lose. I hope they lose big because that’s the only way we’re going to get a recalibration of what the Conservative party really is.
“It reinvented itself in 2019 as a party that believed in Brexit and implicit in that is it believed in border controls, well what’s going on? They can’t play that game again.”
In her manifesto, Truss pledged to lower energy bills and taxes for Brits to lower the cost of living. She said she will continue with Johnson’s plan for Britain to hit ‘net zero’ in carbon emissions by 2050.
Although she voted to remain in the EU, Truss has attempted to reinvent herself as a hard-core Brexiteer who will deal with Britain’s illegal immigration crisis as boatloads of migrants continue to make their way to Dover from Calais, but after years of Tory promises about border control, many Brits are now feeling doubtful as to any improvements ever surfacing.
