Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom, the very definition of an extreme, big government liberal, issued a warning on Monday that President Joe Biden’s current plan to reverse former President Donald Trump’s Title 42 border policy could “break” his state. Yeah, well, the border crisis has been breaking every state in the lower western portion of the country for almost two years now, but Newsom said nothing in their defense, nor did he call on the president to take action to secure the border and enforce immigration law to defuse the current situation.
According to Fox News, the current administration plans on lifting the Trump era policy, which enables cops and border security officers to expedite the expulsion of illegal migrants from the U.S.
Newsom, talking with ABC News earlier in the week, stated, “The fact is, what we’ve got right now is not working and is about to break in a post-42 world unless we take some responsibility and ownership.”
“I’m saying that as a father,” the governor continued. “I’m saying that as someone that feels responsible for being part of the solution and I’m trying to do my best here.”
Newsom made the claim that the American government is now sending “more and more” migrants to the state of California due to it “taking care of folks.” What he means is they continue to increase their massive welfare programs in order to provide cradle-to-the-grave support for those entering illegally.
“The more we do, the burden is placed disproportionate on us,” he remarked.
“We’re already at capacity at nine of our sites,” the California Democrat added. “We can’t continue to fund all of these sites because of the budgetary pressures now being placed on this state and the offsetting issues that I have to address.… The reality is, unless we’re doing what we’re doing, people will end up on the streets.”
The comments from Newsom are a bit of a shock considering the fact that he’s been a big supporter of policies to accommodate and expand the protections of illegal immigrants coming into his state for many years now. That must mean the current strain California is under due to the border crisis must be very extensive.
Almost 22 percent of the 11 million migrants in the United States are here illegally, according to data from the Public Policy Institute of California.
Back in September, Newsom signed legislation into law that would allow for illegal immigrants to get a state ID stating, “We’re a state of refuge — a majority-minority state, where 27% of us are immigrants.”
“In January, Newsom unveiled his 2022-23 California budget plan, which included universal health care benefits for all low-income residents, including illegal migrants,” Fox News reported.
“The Biden administration is requesting billions in additional funding for the border as it predicts an enormous spike in migrant encounters when the Title 42 authority to quickly expel migrants due to the COVID-19 pandemic ends later this month,” the report continued.
A court had ordered the White House to stop using the authority — which they have utilized since March 2020 to send migrants back to Mexico — after they claimed it was unlawful.
The Biden administration needs to do its job and actually enforce the immigration laws that are on the books. Along with that, they need to finish the wall former President Donald Trump started. Sure, it might not completely end the influx of illegal migrants into the country, but it most definitely will slash it drastically and allow for homeland security officials to do their jobs without feeling overwhelmed.
It would certainly bring the current crisis to an end, and that in and of itself makes the effort worth it.
