With Republicans taking over the House of Representatives on Tuesday, a brand new poll has revealed that economic issues are still ranking far above other policy areas for the vast majority of Americans. That makes perfect sense when you look at the spike we’ve had in the inflation rate, which has made going to the grocery store on a weekly basis into a grueling, painful experience.
During the midterm elections in November of 2022, Republicans managed to gain control of the House, barely, despite the forecasts that stated the right would have a red tsunami, while Democrats gained a seat in the Senate, which broke the federal trifecta that has allowed President Joe Biden to push into place many pieces of his legislative agenda.
Over the course of the last six months, Americans have put much of their focus on economic issues, though they are seeing pressure from the increasing inflation rate as less of a threat according to a poll put out by the Associated Press and the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center.
According to the Daily Wire, “The poll was conducted among 1,124 American adults from December 1-5 and had a margin of error of 3.8%.”
“Roughly 31% of respondents said in December 2022 that they would like to see the federal government tackle economic issues in the coming year, marking an increase from 24% in June 2022. The relative importance of inflation in particular decreased over the same period but represented the second most important issue for the respondents, with the share of Americans calling for federal solutions dropping from 40% in June to 30% in December,” the Daily Wire continued.
The report added, “The decline occurs as the Federal Reserve establishes higher target interest rates and year-over-year inflation began to decline. The metric fell from 9% in June to 7.1% in November, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.”
Another important issue on the minds of Americans is that of immigration, which seems to run contrary to the thoughts of President Joe Biden who recently stated that there are bigger problems to deal with. Yeah, sure, the economy, but truth be told, nothing is being done on that side of things either. So we have a leader that is not at all concerned with the issues impacting real Americans.
Immigration is the third most frequently cited issue with 27 percent of Americans saying the matter is a concern as of December, which is a slight uptick from the 24 percent it was last June. A total of close to 4.9 million migrants have come into the U.S. under the leadership of the Biden administration, according to information released by the Federation for American Immigration Reform.
“Other issues mentioned by respondents were climate change and health care reform, which saw respective increases of 17% to 26% and 6% to 17%, as well as gun issues, which declined from 30% to 19%. Education and student debt remained relatively constant at 19%, while crime and violence saw an increase from 11% to 16%,” the report said.
Unfortunately, the number of citizens in the country concerned about the topic of abortion, which is the murder of pre-born children, dropped from 16 percent, which was already criminally low, to 11 percent, which just goes to show how immoral we’ve become as a nation. Is it any wonder we’re experiencing so many difficulties? A country that willingly allows the murder of its most vulnerable citizens is surely not on God’s good side.
“Republicans saw a lackluster performance in the midterms despite the public’s concern over the state of the economy. Record inflation and border crossings were consistently identified by voters as top concerns even as they cast ballots for Democrats at a higher rate than many commentators had anticipated. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), a candidate for Speaker of the House, unveiled a “Commitment to America” before the midterm election that emphasized economic stability, border security, and crime reduction,” the Daily Wire reported.
What’s really sobering is how only 21 percent of folks think 2023 will be better than 2022, while a total of 24 percent think it’ll be worse. Biden has really broken down the spirits of the American people.
