Billionaire owner of Twitter Elon Musk is now launching efforts to do battle against woke artificial intelligence, which is something that the genius inventor and CEO considers to be a top threat facing humanity, according to new reports that were released on Monday. Artificial intelligence as a whole is a pretty terrifying concept. There are consequences for trying to play God, which is something our science-fiction has been warning us about for ages, but it is a message we continue to ignore.
According to the Daily Wire, the information stated that Musk has been talking with top “artificial intelligence researchers in recent weeks about forming a new research lab to develop an alternative to ChatGPT,” which was the first AI tool that became mainstream.
“The report said Musk believes that ChatGPT is an example of ‘training AI to be woke.’ Musk is recruiting Igor Babuschkin, a top researcher who has worked at Alphabet’s DeepMind AI unit and at OpenAI, to help lead the effort,” the Daily Wire said.
Musk has been an outspoken critic of ChatGPT and the company that created it, which the billionaire himself helped to co-found, for the direction it has taken. It must be really difficult to look at something you helped create go off into the world and make things you know for a fact are a danger to broader human civilization, which was no doubt not the goal he had in mind when establishing the company.
“The danger of training AI to be woke – in other words, lie – is deadly,” Musk stated shortly after ChatGPT launched and people started pointing out all the problems with the tool.
“OpenAI was created as an open source (which is why I named it ‘Open’ AI), non-profit company to serve as a counterweight to Google, but now it has become a closed source, maximum-profit company effectively controlled by Microsoft,” Musk posted on Twitter. “Not what I intended at all.”

“Having a bit of AI existential angst today,” Musk went on to say as the week kicked off. “But, all things considered with regard to AGI [artificial general intelligence] existential angst, I would prefer to be alive now to witness AGI than be alive in the past and not.”
Musk issued a warning early in February concerning the unrestricted development of artificial intelligence and the threat it poses to the existence of humankind.
“One of the biggest risks to the future of civilization is AI. But AI is both positive or negative – it has great promise, great capability but also, with that comes great danger,” Musk went on to say. “I mean, you look at say, the discovery of nuclear physics. You had nuclear power generation but also nuclear bombs.”
When delivering a speech in Dubai, Musk remarked that the Chat GPT program was society’s first look at just how advanced AI has now become as it is the first time that most folks have been able to interact with it.
“I think we need to regulate AI safety, frankly,” Musk stated during the talk. “Think of any technology which is potentially a risk to people, like if it’s aircraft or cars or medicine, we have regulatory bodies that oversee the public safety of cars and planes and medicine. I think we should have a similar set of regulatory oversight for artificial intelligence, because I think it is actually a bigger risk to society.”
