Liberalism is not only a mental disorder, but it apparently is an indication of a lack of intelligence, a point made clear by tyrant-in-the-making Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer finally coming forward and stating that “maybe” — just maybe now — her lockdown measures back in 2020 during the height of the coronavirus pandemic went a touch too far. In the history of stupid comments made by a radical left-winger, this is rating up in the top ten. And Whitmer’s competition includes President Joe Biden, so this is really saying something.
Back during April 2020, according to TheBlaze, Whitmer put out an executive order to “suspend activities that are not necessary to sustain or protect life.” The super strict lockdown measures also required stores to rope off aisles that featured the items that the governor deemed to be non-essential, which included flooring, furniture, garden centers, paint, and plant nurseries. Gee, mighty nice of her to do all of the thinking for folks, right? She’s just trying to take care of you guys. Listen to Mother. After all, she knows what’s best for you.
“As a result, hardware and big box stores were forced to pause gardening sales by roping off departments containing fruit and vegetable seeds and other planting supplies,” the report said.
“Close areas of the store—by cordoning them off, placing signs in aisles, posting prominent signs, removing goods from shelves, or other appropriate means,” the executive order said.
And if that is not insane enough, Whitmer also tried to control the kind of advertising that could be seen for stores and other merchants. If the commercials you wanted to air were not for essential goods only you were in big, big trouble.
“By April 13, 2020, refrain from the advertising or promotion of goods that are not groceries, medical supplies, or items that are necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation, and basic operation of residences,” it went on to state.
So, the tyrant-in-training was seemingly doing her absolute best to annihilate local businesses by placing obscene and absurd restrictions on the products companies could sell and the advertising they put out. How much extra did these establishments have to set aside for their marketing in order to make necessary changes to be in compliance?
Whitmer also issued a stay-at-home order that banned gatherings of any size and restricted travel to only those who were considered to be required workers.
During an interview with CNN over the weekend, Whitmer was asked if there was anything she might have done differently concerning the insane policies she pushed at the time.
“I’m just curious, if there is one thing in particular that you could do differently and, again, knowing then what you know now, what would it be?” Chris Wallace went on to ask the Michigan governor.
“Michigan would’ve been manufacturing the world’s masks and swabs and would’ve helped keep people safe,” Whitmer said in response.
“I mean in terms of lockdown,” Wallace clarified.
“You know, there were moments where, you know, we had to make some decisions that, in retrospect, don’t make a lot of sense, right?” Whitmer commented during the interview. “If you went to the hardware store, you could go to the hardware store, but we didn’t want people to be congregating around the garden supplies. People said, ‘Oh, she’s outlawed seeds.’ It was February in Michigan, and nobody was planting anyway. But that being said, some of those policies, I look back and think maybe that was a little more than what we needed to do.”
Wallace continued to press the Michigan Democrat about potential plans to run for president in 2024.
“I am not planning on running for president in 2024, period,” Whitmer made clear.
