Former popular child star Amanda Bynes has reportedly been placed on a psychiatric hold after an incident occurred where she was wandering the streets of Los Angeles completely naked. That’s not exactly a great place to be wandering around without clothes on, so she’s really blessed that she didn’t end up on the news as the latest victim of some violent crime. Regardless, this is a sad situation for Bynes who was clearly left emotionally damaged from her time in Hollywood. Probably some other factors thrown in there as well.
According to The Daily Wire, the 36-year-old flagged down a passing motorist in the early hours of Sunday morning and was able to ask them for assistance, going on to inform them she was having a “psychotic episode,” said a piece from TMZ. The outlet then reported that authorities picked Bynes up and put her on a psychiatric hold under the full direction of a mental health team.
TMZ pointed out that Bynes did not appear to be suffering from any injuries when she was picked up by local authorities.
The actress, most well known for the various roles she played on Nickelodeon, was placed under a conservatorship back in August 2013, which enabled her mom, Lynn Bynes, to have legal authority and control over her finances, along with other important decisions. She’s been placed under psychiatric holds on multiple occasions after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The conservatorship officially ended in March of last year.
“Amanda is excited and looking forward to living independently,” her lawyer went on to tell Fox News Digital in a statement at the time. “She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary,” he said during an interview with People.
This is definitely going to be a setback for her being able to live and function on her own. Such a sad thing to see play out publicly. Many individuals experience mental health crises like this, however, it’s not blasted all over the world for everyone to see. No doubt this adds an element of suffering to the situation that is difficult for those of us outside of it to understand.
Here’s a bit more from the Daily Wire:
The “She’s the Man” actress was scheduled to appear at 90s Con in Connecticut over the weekend with other popular stars from that era, including cast members of “Beverly Hills 90210,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Charmed,” “The Wonder Years,” and many others. But Bynes canceled her appearance on the “All That” panel due to an unspecified illness.
The former child star broke into acting working on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series “All That” (1996–2000). Bynes became a household name and got her big break starring in the spin-off series “The Amanda Show” (1999–2002).
Bynes moved on from TV to films, appearing in the comedy “What a Girl Wants” (2003), the sports comedy “She’s the Man” (2006), the “Hairspray” musical (2007), and the comedy film “Easy A” (2010). She took a hiatus from acting following several mental health incidents and admitted substance abuse problems.
Back in 2018, during an interview with Paper magazine, Bynes issued an apology for how she treated people when she was in the deep end of her addiction.
“I’m really ashamed and embarrassed with the things I said. I can’t turn back time but if I could, I would. And I’m so sorry to whoever I hurt and whoever I lied about because it truly eats away at me,” Bynes said.
Her appearance at 90’s Con would have been the first public appearance the actress has made since her conservatorship came to an end last year.
