We have pretty much known the 2024 GOP nomination is a two-horse race. It is either going to be former president Donald trump, or Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Anyone else is playing for third place.
However, that hasn’t stopped others from throwing their hat in the ring. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has declared, largely in an effort to land on a ticket with Trump. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy has also declared, and Chris Christy, Ted Cruz, and other also-fans are expected to put their name out there.
EXCLUSIVE: Former GOP Gov. Asa Hutchinson announces during an interview with @JonKarl that he will be running for president.
“I'm convinced that people want leaders that appeal to the best of America and not simply appeal to our worst instincts.” https://t.co/DmytxAAfAL pic.twitter.com/f2lcIBQeqD

Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson is the latest candidate that wants to finish third. He announced his candidacy, informally, and had this to say:
“I’m going to run for president of the United States,” Hutchinson told interviewer Jonathan Karl. He said the “formal announcement” of the campaign would come in Bentonville, Arkansas, “later in April.”
“I’ve traveled the country for six months,” Hutchinson explained. “I hear people talk about the leadership of our country, and I’m convinced that people want leaders that appeal to the best of America and not simply appeal to our worst instincts. That inspires me when I see everyday Americans say, ‘Just give us good leadership. Give us common sense, consistent conservatism and optimism about our great country.’”
It seems a bit reductive to say Americans want leaders that appeal to the best of America. Left or right, people want what they think is best for the country. However, as conservatives we better know what the country needs, and the time for playing nice is over.
We need a candidate with teeth, and not the kind that just smile politely while saying what the left, right, and media want to hear. The country needs a leader that doesn’t play nice, and is willing to put families, values, and America first. we know this doesn’t exist on the left, but is Hutchinson that guy? His track record suggests no.
Hutchinson was largely popular during his tenure in Little Rock but also faced scrutiny in recent years for loudly criticizing former President Donald Trump and for vetoing legislation that would have banned transgender medication and surgery for minors. That veto was overridden.
If we can’t trust Hutchinson to protect minors from having their genitals mutilated by crazed leftists, can we trust him to do what’s in the best interest of the country as a whole? Sure doesn’t sound like it.
Hutchinson, 72, served as Arkansas governor from 2015 until this January, when he was succeeded by Sarah Huckabee Sanders. He previously served in the George W. Bush administration as a Homeland Security official and as head of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
A Republican centrist just isn’t what this country needs. The left has moved the needle so far left that a centrist is useless. The nation needs a hard reset, and that takes a hard leader. Is Hutchinson willing to make the hard decisions when he can’t even protect children?
That would be a hard no. I suppose their have to be challengers, but it is a two horse race, and Asa Hutchinson is a pony in a triple crown race.
