Things got tense during a recent interview between former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and former Vice President Mike Pence on Friday in Iowa. Which is kind of weird when you think about Pence and his extremely mild nature, but hey, even the best of us can get defensive when a person challenges our beliefs and our position on the issues, right? And that’s why Tucker Carlson is the right person to conduct these kind of interviews. He’s not afraid to go there, especially now that’s he’s been cut loose from Fox.
According to The Daily Wire, the interview, which was conducted at the Family Leadership Summit, was focused on the war in Ukraine, along with his thoughts and beliefs about what transpired on January 6th, and what he thought about the 2020 presidential election.
As the former vice president chatted about some of the NATO countries that might start transferring fighter jets to Ukraine, Carlson interjected and offered some pushback. And that’s when the temperature in the room went up a bit.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Vice President, have you, I know you’re running for president, you are distressed that the Ukrainians don’t have enough American tanks,” Carlson stated. “Every city in the United States has become much worse over the past three years. Drive around. There’s not one city that’s gotten better in the United States. And it’s visible.”
“Our economy has degraded, the suicide rate has jumped, public filth and disorder and crime have exponentially increased,” Carlson added. “And yet your concern is that the Ukrainians, a country most people can’t find on a map, who’ve received tens of billions of U.S. tax dollars, don’t have enough tanks.”
“I think it’s a fair question to ask, like, where’s the concern for the United States in that?” the former Fox host asked.
Pence fired back with, “Well, it’s not my concern.”
“Tucker, I’ve heard that routine from you before. But that’s not my concern,” Pence explained. “I’m running for president in the United States, because I think this country is in a lot of trouble. I think Joe Biden has weakened America at home and abroad.”
“And as President of the United States, we’re going to restore law and order in our cities,” the former vice president said. “We’re going to secure our border, we’re going to get this economy moving again. And we’re going to make sure that we have men and women on our courts at every level that will stand for the right to life and defend all the God given liberties enshrined in our Constitution.”
Pence then remarked that the United States can lead on both domestic and foreign policy issues. I don’t think anyone would disagree with that statement, but should not the greater focus be put on fixing our own nation and its problems? Who is helping us to right the ship? Is Ukraine? No. And it’s not their responsibility to intervene. Same works the other way.

Carlson is not afraid to ask tough questions. That’s exactly what we need, as these kind of questions will help peel back the veneer and allow Americans to hear what those running for office really have to say about the issues impacting our lives.
