A zoo in China fired back at critics who have accused them of featuring human beings in bear suits instead of actual sun bears on exhibit in their facility. Yes, I’m being serious. No, this isn’t a joke. There are pictures of the bears in question, and I have to be honest, they really do look like people in costumes. Given how things operate in the communist nation of China, I would not be surprised in the slightest to find out the allegations are true.
According to The Daily Caller, “Some had argued the bears weren’t real based on how they stood up like humans, the Associated Press (AP) reported. A spokesperson from the Hangzhou Zoo in eastern China took to social media to craft a post from the Sun Bear’s point of view.”
“Some people think I stand like a person,” the post published by the zoo read, according to a report from the AP.

I can totally understand why some people think this is a person in a suit. The way the skin seems to bunch up in the back and the legs all look suspiciously human. Maybe it’s just the way the picture was taken? I don’t know. This is really bizarre.

The report then goes on to reveal that the average sun bear is roughly similar in size to a large dog, “standing at most 1.3 meters (50 inches) tall on their hind legs, compared with up to 2.8 meters (9 feet) for grizzlies and other species,” the AP said, citing information from the zoo.
Sun bears are also an endangered species. There are only 2,000 of them alive around the globe, a total that does not include the number currently in captivity.
People reported on the story, saying that a spokesperson from the zoo revealed that trickery of this sort would not be tolerated at the facility, which is run by the state. In my opinion, that statement, along with the fact the zoo is run by the government, is all the reason I need to doubt that is a real bear. Sorry, not sorry.
One of the strongest rebuttals offered to the idea of the bear being a person in a suit is the extremely hot summer temperatures that Eastern China is experiencing. The spokesperson stated that a person in a costume like that would “not last more than a few minutes before collapsing.”
That is probably very true. But, then again, since when has the Chinese government ever cared about the lives of its citizens? Maybe they rotate employees out so a person doesn’t have to stay in the suit for so long and sustain heat stroke?
Nah.
Chances are, this is a legitimate bear. But it’s still hilarious that we are living in times where you just can’t believe what you see with your own eyes anymore. This is the natural outcome of a world that thinks boys can be girls and vice versa.
