History was made on Tuesday when House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a California Republican, was voted out of his position after a bunch of Democrats decided to join forces with Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz to give him the boot. Look, I’m not saying McCarthy should have stayed, but, come on, man. That’s just a little sketchy. I’m always weary when the left joins in with something being done on the right.
The vote, 216-210, marks the very first time in U.S. history that the House has removed someone from the position of speaker. After our former president hit two impeachments, a pandemic, the admission of the existence of UFOs, and now this, I’m kind of sick and tired of living in historic, unprecedented times. I remember back when things were boring. Do you remember that? I’m nostalgic for those days.
According to the Daily Wire, the last time the speakership was challenged was 110 years ago.
“The other seven Republicans who sided with House Democrats included Reps. Andy Biggs (AZ), Ken Buck (CO), Eli Crane (AZ), Bob Good (VA), Matt Rosendale (MT), Tim Burchett (TN), and Nancy Mace (SC),” the report revealed.
Most Republicans were against voting McCarthy out, which means this passed thanks to the help of Democrats. Again, if the left is quick to lend you a hand, it’s because doing so provides them with some sort of benefit.
A report published by TheBlaze said, “With the vote to kick McCarthy out of the speaker’s slot, the House will now need to select a new speaker. McCarthy became speaker in January after 15 rounds of balloting, so such such a scenario could play out again, with multiple rounds of voting taking place before a speaker is finally selected. Republicans control the House majority, but not by a significant margin.”

Andy Biggs of of Arizona stated in a post published on X. “Speaker McCarthy has failed to demonstrate himself as an effective leader who will change the status quo. He has gone against many of the promises he made in January and can no longer be trusted at the helm.”

Is this going to blow up in the face of the GOP? I don’t know. We could end up with a worse, more watered-down establishment Speaker than we had before. In the middle of an election cycle, this seems like a bad idea. I understand where Gaetz is coming from. People are tired of having individuals in positions of power and influence who refuse to stand on principle and play hardball. Our economy is in the toilet and the government needs a massive reduction in spending.
Will this ultimately lead to that? Again, I’m not sure. That would be great if it does, but again, the influence and support of the Democrats with this motion is, in my opinion, highly concerning. That sends up a lot of red flags and just plain makes me worried. Guess we’ll have to wait and see how much of an impact this has on the current state of the House.
