Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan, who is currently running for Speaker of the House, just landed a major endorsement from the conservative advocacy group known as the Tea Party Patriots Action, for the position, which no doubt will go a long way in winning over the support of individuals in the House. The other major candidate for the job is House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, a Louisiana Republican, following the official booting of California Rep. Kevin McCarthy from the seat.
“Jim Jordan has been a consistent conservative leader since he came to the House in 2007. He has always fought for limited government, a strong national defense, and individual liberty, and he shares Tea Party Patriots Action’s values in support of personal freedom, economic freedom, and a debt-free future,” TPPA Honorary Chair Jenny Beth Martin went on to say in a statement, according to Newsmax.
“The next Speaker of the House will face enormous challenges in working with the Biden Administration and the Senate to right our nation’s course, to return to fiscal discipline, and to defend our interests at home and abroad,” Martin continued. “He will need to be ready to fight to secure our border, to get Washington’s reckless spending under control, to end the weaponization of government against its citizens, and to end the woke policies guiding our military.”
Martin finished her glowing recommendation for Jordan by saying, “We believe Jim Jordan is the right man for the job. On behalf of our three million members and supporters, I am pleased to endorse Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House.”
This isn’t the first time folks in the Tea Party have wanted to see Jordan toss his hat into the ring for Speaker. An open letter crafted by over 100 Tea Party leaders urged him to run for the position back in 2018.
Here’s more on that from The Columbus Dispatch:
“You must take the lead,” read the letter, signed by tea party and ultra-conservative leaders including Ed Meese, who was attorney general for President Ronald Reagan; Jenny Beth Martin, the chairman of the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund; and Eunie Smith, president of the Eagle Forum, among others.
They argued that Jordan has demonstrated “an unwavering commitment to our constitutional liberties and conservative principles of free market economics, budgetary discipline, traditional values and a strong national defense.”
“You have worked to drain the swamp, not fill it further,” they wrote, saying Jordan must “immediately” announce he is running for speaker, and that the present House Republican leadership — a group that includes House Speaker Paul Ryan and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy — “has proven that it’s part of ‘the Swamp.’”
Currently, Jordan is serving as the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which is carrying out a number of investigations into President Joe Biden and the potential impeachment worthy offense of being involved with an influence peddling scheme connected to his son Hunter Biden and other various members of his family.
He would make an excellent speaker as he is a man who has proven over and over again to be someone of principle.
