Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan had an interview on Monday with CNN where he stated he’s very optimistic about his chances to become the next Speaker of the House, which requires that he receive 217 votes on Tuesday in order to take over the seat. A lot of people want to see Jordan in the position as he’s earned a reputation for standing valiantly on his principles, which has been evidenced by his leadership as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and its probes into President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
“I feel real good about the momentum we have, and I think we are real close,” Jordan stated during the interview with CNN.
According to Newsmax, “One of the other top candidates for the position, Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., withdrew from the ballot last week, narrowly losing to Jordan in an earlier GOP poll, 124-113, The Washington Post reported Friday. Jordan said Monday that he had garnered the support of at least two more GOP members: Rep. Ann Wagner, R-Mo., and Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Ala.”
“Ann Wagner and Mike Rogers publicly saying they support us, two great members, who do all kinds of great work,” Jordan also stated during his appearance on the mostly left-leaning network. “That was really big.”
Just last week, Rogers stated that he was not on board with the idea of Jordan becoming the next Speaker according to a report published by The Hill.
“Jim Jordan and I have had two cordial, thoughtful, and productive conversations over the past two days,” Rogers stated in a post published Monday on X. “…As a result, I have decided to support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House on the floor. Since I was first elected to the House, I have always been a team player and supported what the majority of the Republican Conference agrees to. Together, our Republican majority will be stronger to fight Joe Biden’s reckless agenda for America.”
Newsmax added, “In a statement issued Monday, Wagner said she changed her mind after speaking with Jordan about border security, human trafficking, international support during war and unrest, and ‘keeping the government open with conservative funding.'”
The Ohio Congressman then pointed out it’s important to choose the next speaker this week on Tuesday so the House can get back to work and craft an aid package for the people of Israel in light of the Hamas terrorist attacks that occurred a little more than a week ago and left over a thousand people dead.
Jordan stated his willingness to go to the floor regardless of whether or not he has the necessary vote total to cinch the seat and will also stand for several ballots for the House to resume work.
“It’s not about pressuring anybody. It is the way our great system works. We have to have a speaker,” he explained. “You cannot open the House and do the work of the American people and help our dearest and closest friend Israel if you don’t have a speaker.”
