There are a lot of hats already in the ring for the Republican Party 2024 presidential nomination, but all of them are falling far, far behind former President Donald Trump in the polls. Which makes you ponder why so many of them still remain seeing as they have less than zero chance of actually defeating him? Perhaps they are hanging on to the hope that something might happen that would prohibit Trump from being able to complete his presidential campaign? Like a felony conviction maybe?
Anyway, the GOP field might be on the verge of getting even more crowded as former Congresswoman Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican who hates Trump with the intensity of a thousand burning suns, has said she’s not ruling out running for president in 2024. Keep in mind, however, that Cheney lost her bid for reelection after she participated in both voting to impeach Trump and being a member of the committee that investigated him and the events that transpired on Jan. 6, 2021.
According to Newsmax, Cheney conducted an interview Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Nation” program, where she said, “I’m going to spend the next year, between now and the election, certainly helping to elect serious people [in both parties], helping to elect sane people to Congress.”
She was asked during the show if she had ruled out a run for the White Houses, but Cheney, who is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, said, “No, I’m not.”
Cheney is essentially the GOP version of Hillary Clinton. That’s how disliked she is by her colleagues and voters alike. A Cheney campaign for 2024 would be laughable. At least if she ran as a Republican. Heck, who knows? Maybe she’s plotting a defection to the Democratic Party? She has more in common with their ideology than that of her current party.
“Republican opposition to Cheney’s role as vice chair of the Jan. 6 select committee and for voting to impeach Trump the second time, led to her overwhelming loss in the 2022 Republican primary to Harriet Hageman, who won with 66.3% of the vote to Cheney’s 28.9%. Hageman, backed by Trump, went on to easily win the House seat in the general election,” Newsmax reported. “Cheney didn’t answer directly when CNN host Jake Tapper asked if she would vote for the Democrat candidate if Trump was the Republican nominee in 2024.”
“We’re going to see what happens,” she replied. ‘We’re going to see how things unfold. I think Donald Trump is the single most dangerous threat we face. I would imagine that there will be a number of other candidates in the race that I think …”
Tapper then interjected and asked her if she would be one.
“I think that we could well find ourselves in a situation, given what we know the Trump folks are doing, in terms of attempting to question the results of the election,” she answered. “We don’t want a situation where the election is thrown into the House of Representatives and Donald Trump has any possibility at all of prevailing under those circumstances. So, we have got to elect people who believe in the Constitution and who take their responsibility seriously to Congress.”
Yeah, that’s a hard pass from me guys. How about you?
