Secretary of State Antony Blinken has sworn to issue a rapid and “decisive” response to attacks on an Iraqi base where U.S. troops are stationed. The assault was carried out by militants with the backing of Iran. And this isn’t the first of such attacks to be carried on bases that are housing men and women in the United States military. Ever since last Thursday, militias that are funded by Iran have launched a series of rockets and one-way attack drones at these locations.
According to the Daily Caller, Blinken addressed the United Nations Security Council where he more or less reiterated a warning that was issued by the Pentagon that these militias would attempt to escalate aggression in the near future and target American military personnel, in what he believes is an attempt to draw the U.S. into a war that is breaking out in the Middle East region.
And that’s probably correct. Many of the individuals who belong to this extreme form of the Islamic faith believe that they are ushering in the end times by causing a massive jihad — holy war — and need to have the United States involved in order to pull the rest of the world into the fray. This has been the plan for a very, very long time.
“The U.S. does not seek conflict with Iran. We do not want this war to widen. But, if Iran or its proxies attack U.S. personnel anywhere, make no mistake: We will defend our people, we will defend our security, swiftly and decisively,” Blinken went on to say.
“Rockets rained down at Iraq’s Ain al-Asad air base near Baghdad, where U.S. and coalition troops are based, again on Tuesday, Reuters reported, citing two Iraqi security sources. One source said the rockets were large,” the report continued.
“There was no official confirmation of the attacks; U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment. The Pentagon is looking into the latest reports, Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said at a briefing Monday,” the Daily Caller stated.
“It is no secret to anyone in this room, or on this council, that for years, Iran has supported Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and other groups that continue to carry out attacks on Israel. Iranian leaders have routinely threatened to wipe Israel off the map. In recent weeks, Iran’s proxies have repeatedly attacked U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria,” Blinken remarked.
One of the goals that Blinken had for his time during the United Nations meeting was to convince the representative for Iran to use the massive political and governmental power Tehran has over Lebanese Hezbollah to try convincing the terrorist organization not to join the war between Hamas and Israel. In response to the initial attacks that started the conflict, the Pentagon has increased troops and equipment located near Israel as a show of force they hope will deter Iran and the many proxies it has from getting involved.
In New York for a @UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East. Will reaffirm Israel’s right to defend itself and discuss work to secure the release of hostages, prevent the conflict from spreading, and enhance humanitarian support for Gaza. pic.twitter.com/VY0EyZkOIh

“As attacks on installations throughout the region where American troops are present mount, the Pentagon has taken additional steps to bolster defenses in the CENTCOM region to protect U.S. troops,” the Daily Callers said.
“Should there be a response, if there is to be one, the Department will do so at the time and place of our choosing,” Ryder revealed.
I think it’s probably only a matter of time before we get pulled into the conflict — as in sending troops on the ground — as things are escalating rapidly and we don’t have solid leadership in the White House to guide us and the rest of the world through the fog.
Let’s hope I’m wrong and this comes to a quick end without the need for American troops to get involved in the war.
