“Barry was a federal judge in New Jersey and retired from her position in 2019. The former president and his sister were reportedly very close but tensions arose when their niece, Mary L. Trump, promoted a memoir about the family and released audio showing Barry critical of her brother. Trump’s first wife, Ivana, passed away in 2022 while his younger brother Robert passed away in 2020. Trump held a funeral service for Robert at the White House,” the Daily Caller revealed.
“Judge Barry had been on the federal bench in New Jersey, a position that Mr. Trump’s fixer, the lawyer Roy M. Cohn, was credited with helping her attain during President Ronald Reagan’s tenure in the 1980s. She retired in 2019 after she became the focus of a court investigation stemming from an investigation by The New York Times into the Trump family’s tax practices,” the Times reported.
“Mr. Trump seemed to heed the words of few people as much as he did his eldest sister’s, according to confidants. But their relationship suffered a significant fissure in the final year of his presidency, when their niece Mary L. Trump, who was promoting a memoir about their family, released recordings of her aunt speaking harshly about the president,” the report continued.
Judge Barry was a Republican who was first appointed to the bench of the District Court in New Jersey by former President Ronald Reagan way, way back in 1983. She was then promoted to the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 1993 by President Bill Clinton. She was married to John J. Barry who served as a veteran trial and appellate lawyer in New Jersey.
It seems that Judge Barry and her brother, the former president, did not get along all too well, at least in later times, as many scorching comments from her concerning Trump were made during recorded conversations that were created by Mary Trump back in 2018.
“His go**amned tweet and the lying — oh, my God,” Judge Barry said in one of the recordings. “I’m talking too freely, but, you know. The change of stories. The lack of preparation. The lying.”
“All he wants to do is appeal to his base. He has no principles. None.” She then said “It’s the phoniness and this cruelty. Donald is cruel.” “You can’t trust him.”
It’s always sad when politics ends up splitting a family apart. However, it seems that the former president’s sister was not a big fan of his work despite being a Republican herself. Perhaps this means she wasn’t really and totally sold out on the values presented by her party? Who knows? Let’s just say a prayer for the Trumps instead of making judgments.
