Democrats are very, very nervous about President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, referring to the speech as a make-or-break moment for the 81-year-old who is facing some serious concerns from American voters about his fitness for duty, his mental acuity, the border crisis he caused and continues to allow, and the fact he is currently trailing former President Donald Trump in the polls.
The current commander-in-chief will deliver his address on Thursday evening, which is really going to serve as his re-election campaigns major starting point since he now knows he will be facing off against Trump. In fact, his campaign has decided to come out swinging for the fences against the former president in a much more aggressive strategy that is designed to convince the general population he’s not weak and pathetic.
Even though he is.
However, a number of Democrats are terrified he’s going to continue adding to the list of gaffes he’s made since becoming president, which could put the nail in the coffin early for his chances at getting a second term.
via The Daily Caller:
“It’s important that it be good,” Democratic House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told Axios.
“There’s no doubt that he has the vigor [for a second term], but that’s being questioned,” Hoyer continued. “He’s quick, and he needs to show that.”
While Biden falls behind Trump in several key swing states, the president’s fitness for office has come under increased scrutiny following special counsel Robert Hur’s report on his handling of classified documents. Though Hur decided not to pursue charges against Biden, the report noted that during a five hour interview with the special counsel over Oct. 8 and 9, the president appeared to forget when his vice presidency began and ended and also blanked on the date of his late son’s death.
Now, the worst possible thing that Biden could have done at that moment was hold a press conference addressing the report. Which is exactly what he did. It was a disaster and served to authentic the information contained in Hur’s report.
“Of the various speeches a president gives, the State of the Union in an election year is a big one,” Democratic Michigan Rep. Dan Kildee said in a comment given to Axios.
Other Democrats are under the delusion that Biden is really good at handling hecklers, so that eases their minds about how well he’ll perform at the address.
“We are all nervous,” a House Democrat told Axios, referencing worries about Biden’s “ability to speak without blowing things.”
If I were a Democrat I would be scared to death of how badly this event could go. Biden is not a great public speaker to begin with. He tries too hard to be “chummy” and come off as “one of the good ole boys.” It’s unnatural and forced.
And there’s the clear cognitive decline he’s experiencing as well. Will this rear its head tonight and sabotage his address? There’s a good chance that might happen. Either way, it’s probably going to be interesting to watch.
