Van Jones, a hardcore leftist political commentator for CNN, stated on Wednesday during an appearance on “Anderson Cooper 360” that Democrats, in private, are talking about “how” they can replace President Joe Biden as their party’s nominee, “not whether” that is the course of action they should take. Given the horrifically bad debate performance he gave last week, I’d say that’s probably true. Democrats from the top of the party all the way to the common voters have turned against him at this point.
According to Breitbart, Jones went on to say, “I am going to be honest. I mean, everybody comes on the air and it says all this great stuff but behind the scenes it’s full full-scale panic. People are passing around legal memos, PDFs are flying back and forth on WhatsApp trying to figure out, what are the options? How can you replace Biden? How do you get him to do it in a way where he feels respected, as he should be respected? Who should Kamala Harris’s vice president be?”
He then expalined, “The conversation on air in the conversation off there are completely different. So it’s the same thing with you saw with the Trump situation where people would come on and defend Trump, then you talk to people and we’ve got a crazy candidate. We don’t have a crazy candidate. We have a great candidate. We have a beautiful man. We have someone who loves his country. We have someone who has given his all, I mean, his all to the last drop for this country but he may not be able to get across the finish line. A mature party has to take that into account and that is what’s happening. Look, I understand people want to defend them and protect him and give him their space and the dignity to make his own choice but there is a big conversation happening right now about how this happens, not whether.”
In my opinion, it’s too little, too late. People have been talking about the president’s cognitive decline for years, including during his last campaign in 2020, but the left was too concerned with beating Trump that they opted to ignore the obvious signs of dementia Biden was displaying at the time. Those symptoms have only gotten worse over the last three-and-a-half years. The writing was on the wall, but the left refused to read it.
At this point, I’m not sure a successful campaign could be launched with only four months left to go before the big day. The amount of work that would need to be done is so huge I think it’s an insurmountable obstacle. Add to that the fact the new candidate would need to create a platform addressing the major issues of the day and ensure that this information made it in front of the eyes of potential voters, which would require an extremely expensive ad campaign, endless events and rallies, and on the list goes.
Of course, even if all of that were some how done, it doesn’t translate to votes. People are sick and tired of left-wing policies, which are what Biden helped implement and have destroyed our economy and eroded our personal liberties. If the Democrats don’t present legitimate solutions to the issues Americans care about, no amount of campaigning, nor slick candidates they put up as the nominee will secure a victory.
