There are quite a few folks involved in the realm of politics that one could accurately describe as delusional. Like independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for example. Kennedy is seemingly under the impression he has a chance in he** of winning the 2024 general election, thus, he has officially weighed in on whether or not he would drop out and toss his support behind former President Donald Trump, who is the GOP presidential nominee.
Obviously, the answer is no.
Kennedy let the general public know his intentions in a post this morning on X, going on to say, “I’m in it to win it. I lead in popularity and independents are now the largest voting block. Momentum is shifting in my favor as I close in on ballot access in all 50 states. I look forward to challenging President Trump and the DNC nominee at the next debate. #AmericaStrong.”

I’m not sure what planet this man is living on, but it certainly isn’t earth. All he’s doing at the moment is sucking up votes from both of the major parties, which means there’s a chance he could potentially be helping Vice President Kamala Harris defeat Trump in the general election this fall. That’s not his intention, at least I don’t think it is, but that could be the outcome. He could also be helping Trump though as well. The problem is, we don’t know which direction the hand he’s lending by staying in the race is going to go.
Not really something we want to gamble with, am I right?
Another user stated on X:
If we’re being real here, there is no path to victory for third party candidates in the current system and even millions of votes can correspond to zero electoral votes. It’s just the way it is. Take wins where you can, Donald Trump will listen and work with you on some things. Kamala Harris will not. Continuing to run is giving Harris a better chance..

This is the absolute truth. Kennedy has as much of a chance of becoming the president as I do of marrying Sydney Sweeney, which is to say none at all. At least not in this timeline. I can’t say for sure what would happen in another universe, as I happen to occupy this one, and in this reality, both of those events transpiring are an impossibility.
I have learned to live with the fact that Ms. Sweeney and I are not star-cross’d lovers destined to be together in an epic love story to be told and retold for generations to come. I accept it. I’m okay with it. Kennedy needs to do the same with the presidency. Third-party candidates have zero chance. Our nation is addicted to the two-party system, for better or worse. Pick a party and do your best within it to present your ideals.
Otherwise, hang it up. Retire. Get a hobby. Play some golf. Do anything other than try to make a bid for office as a third party.
