Arizona Republican Kari Lake might already have her next career move after losing her campaign for Senate earlier this month, as a new report from Mediaite has revealed she’s currently in “active negotiations” with right-leaning news outlet Newsmax. I feel like this would be a good move for her. She has a lot to offer and working as a contributor with a network like this could provide her a wider platform to share her conservative values with the rest of the country. It could position her for bigger and better things in the not-so-distant future.
And, of course, there’s her previous experience as a news broadcaster that will no doubt be beneficial in the pursuit of this kind of career.
Before emerging as a far-right political candidate, Lake spent more than two decades as an anchor for the Phoenix television station Fox 10. After quitting the station, she became one of the loudest voices promoting Trump’s false claims of a stolen election in 2020, and mounted a bid for governor of Arizona in 2022. Lake lost that race, but refused to concede and cried fraud.
A local election official she had blamed for her loss sued for defamation over her false claims. The suit was recently settled for an undisclosed amount. Lake ran for Senate in 2024 but lost to Democrat Ruben Gallego, underperforming Trump, who won the state in the presidential contest. She has not conceded the race, but has not challenged the results either.
Unfortunately, according to insiders with Lake’s camp, she doesn’t hold out much hope of being offered a position within the president-elect’s administration. The insider said, rather plainly, that Trump does not like to hire folks who lose. Honestly, that’s understandable.
“She lost two elections and was a complete Trump loyalist, and did not get picked for anything,” they added, adding Newsmax seeks out Trump orbit personalities who are “damaged” and will be “cheap” to hire. When reached for comment about her talks with Newsmax, Lake responded by text: “Get better sources.”
A spokesperson representing Newsmax denied there were any talks with Lake happening at the moment saying, “we have had ZERO discussions with Kari Lake to join Newsmax.” I mean, that’s exactly what a guy like this is supposed to say during negotiations, which are a private matter between the company and the potential hire. If they allow other networks to know they are interested in Lake, they may swoop in and steal the talent with a better deal.
Ultimately, we’ll find out whether or not these talks are happening when the ink on the deal is dry. Until then it’s just speculation.
