Television host and UK personality Piers Morgan recently got his backside handed to him in a humiliating exchange with conservative journalist Tucker Carlson when the two started discussing how the United Kingdom was a free country. I don’t think it takes a genius to quickly glance at that part of the world and draw the conclusion that the UK is a lot of things, but free it is not. I mean, just the fact that guns are banned in the country is all it takes to disprove Morgan’s claim.
Add to that his own anti-gun bias and how people are now being arrested there for offending people in posts on social media and any moron with the IQ of a toddler’s shoe size can see that freedom does not exist in that dojo. If you get my drift.
Most of the interview touched on the subject of the Ukraine-Russia War, the United States’ place in the world, and where we should be sending assistance, monetary and military. However, about an hour and twenty minutes into the discussion, gun control reared its head, again. The topic came as Carlson said the two were more aligned than they thought, including this way: “You do own guns. I know that you do.” (He apparently doesn’t, but as a joke it elicited a laugh.)
“You know, the thing about guns, I’ll just say this for your audience … the reality is that there’s a complete cultural difference,” Morgan told Carlson. “In my country, everybody used to have a gun. Everybody used to, in the old days. Now, very few people have guns. There are incredibly tight restrictions. And the consequence of that is that we have almost zero gun crime.”
Carlson couldn’t help it. He started to laugh and replied, “Is London safe now?”
I think we all know the answer to that question. Criminals in the UK have ditched guns, sure, but now they use very large, very sharp knives. Sometimes they use kitchen knives or pocket knives. Oh and guess what? As a result of the sharp increase in knife attacks, legislators are attempting to pass “knife control” measures. I’m not making this up. It’s almost like the tool has nothing to do with violence and the evil that lies in men’s heart does. What a startling concept!
Morgan said the U.K. had a knife problem, yes. To which Carlson countered: “No, you have a people problem. … You can’t be trusted with guns now, because you’re out of control.” And part of that problem is that the U.K. wants total control, as Carlson pointed out. After Morgan pointed out that “we all used to have guns, too,” Tucker noted that the British, after winning World War II, had “lost all your freedom, and now you can’t even express your political opinions, or they put you in jail.”
“So how did you win? How did you win? Is that what victory looks like? You lose all your rights. Your economy gets destroyed –” he went on to say to Morgan.
“You know how we won? We won because I’m not conducting this interview in German,” Morgan fired back. “I’d rather not speak German. I’d be goose-stepping around my yard in England.”
“But you are goose-stepping!” Carlson punched back. “People were arrested for praying.”
Morgan then said, “We literally won our freedom.”
“Where’s your freedom?” Carlson challenged Morgan. “You can’t defend yourself. You can’t control who comes into your country, and you can’t criticize government policies, or you get arrested. So how are you free?”

Not that long ago, there was even some chatter by officials in the U.K. about extraditing billionaire Elon Musk for his posts on his own social media platform, X, due to his criticism of the British government. This, of course, went nowhere, because the blowback from taking such a course of action would have been considerable and the damage done to the relationship between the U.S. and U.K. would be in tatters.
Anyway, Tucker is right. The U.K. is anything but free. Morgan needs to open his eyes and see things as they are.
