CBS host Margaret Brennan, who is most famous now for the “I don’t really care, Margaret” meme following an interview with Vice President JD Vance, ended up getting raked over the coals on Sunday after she made a horrendous claim during an interview with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
During that little chat, Brennan said that “free speech was weaponized” to cause the Holocaust. Yes, that’s right. Brennan believes that what led to Adolf Hitler murdering millions of Jews and starting a World War was free speech. Unreal.
The interview with Rubio took place on CBS News “Face the Nation” during a discussion concerning Vance’s recent speech to European leaders where he called them out for abandoning critical values such as free speech.
“He was standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to conduct a genocide,” Brennan remarked.
“Brennan was met with instant pushback online over her claim, including from top elected leaders,” The Daily Wire reported.
Missouri Republican Sen. Eric Schmitt took to X where he posted, “Free speech caused the Holocaust is an insanely stupid take.”
“I’m glad Margaret Brennan blamed free speech for the rise of the Nazis,” columnist John Podhoretz commented. “It’s always a virtue when a person in a position of authority and influence who was elevated beyond her station reveals her ineptitude and folly–so that the world can see her clearly henceforth.”

Conservative radio host Erick Erickson stated on his X account, “Can we just talk about how a prominent American news anchor actually believes Nazi Germany had free speech and that supposed free speech is to blame for the Holocaust? That’s both deeply arrogant and deeply ignorant.”
Columnist Karol Markowicz posted on X: “It’s wild that this is how far the left has fallen. Free speech caused the Holocaust, you guys.”
“This is absolute lunacy from Margaret Brennan,” wrote journalist Andrew Kerr.
“I legitimately don’t know how ignorant you have to be to claim the holocaust happened as a result of free speech,” said Meghan McCain. “This woman doesn’t deserve to host this show and Republicans should stop rewarding this s*** by going on it.”
How does Brennan have a career in broadcasting when she’s this bad at it? Two interviews that she’s blown and taken heat for. Not because she asked tough questions or made good points, but due to her incompetence. Is she not embarrassed?
Who is helping her come up with this stuff? She can’t be this stupid on her own, can she?
CBS News should seriously consider pulling her from the air.
