The Trump administration is now launching a series of investigations into more than 50 universities that are currently facing allegations of engaging in race-based discrimination. Trump promised that he would obliterate diversity, equity, and inclusion policies (DEI) in high education and he’s now on the warpath to fulfill his word.
Probes will be carried out by the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which flat out forbids racial discrimination in programs receiving federal funding. And guess what? Discrimination against white people counts.
Saying that sentence alone will send radical race-baiting liberals into a frenzy. But despite the left’s unwillingness to admit it, hate really doesn’t care what color its targets are.
A number of schools and colleges have until Friday to comply with a directive from the administration to toss out all diversity programs that use racial preferences or their federal funding will be cut off. A total of 45 universities are being accused of working with “The Ph.D Project,” which was created to help minority students obtain a doctorate degree.
“The government contends that these universities violated Title VI by participating in a program that limits eligibility based on race. Additionally, six universities are under investigation for allegedly awarding race-based scholarships, while another is being scrutinized for reportedly running a racially segregated program,” Trending Politics News said.
Linda McMahon, who is serving as Trump’s Education Secretary, stated emphatically that the goal of the administration is to enforce equal opportunity laws.
“The Department is working to reorient civil rights enforcement to ensure all students are protected from illegal discrimination,” McMahon said. “Students must be assessed according to merit and accomplishment, not prejudged by the color of their skin. We will not yield on this commitment.”
Equal opportunity is an absolutely essential concept that must be preserved. Here in America, it should not matter what color your skin is, everyone is entitled — yes, entitled — to equal availability of opportunity. What we’re not entitled to is equality of success.
Success should be based on merit. If you work hard, you should be able to succeed. Black, white, yellow, or brown. All opportunities need to open for all people. And if you are willing to work hard, you should be able to reap the rewards of your labor.
Leftists have been trying to create equality of success and that leads to discrimination as it will prop one group up above the others. That’s the only way that can work.
The Trump administration’s latest move follows the Supreme Court’s 2023 decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, which struck down affirmative action in college admissions. The ruling established that using race as a factor in admissions decisions violates the Equal Protection Clause and Title VI, setting the stage for this broader enforcement effort.
On February 14, the Department of Education issued a “Dear Colleague Letter” reminding institutions that they must eliminate racial preferences in all aspects of their operations, including admissions, hiring, financial aid, scholarships, and even administrative support. Schools were given 14 days to assess their compliance with federal law. The department further warned against using indirect means to maintain racial preferences, such as altering application questions or using essay prompts to indirectly gauge race. Despite the looming threat of losing federal funding, few universities have announced changes to their policies. Many believe they can withstand the legal challenge, arguing that their programs fall within the bounds of existing law.
The DOE has stated with absolute clarity that institutions who refuse to comply with the administration’s mandate will face financial consequences. If the president does follow through on his threat, no doubt there will be a series of legal battles that follow.
