Muriel Bowser, the Democrat mayor of Washington, D.C., is now in hot water after an investigation by 7News I-Team revealed her office has failed to properly disclose sources of funding for a series of expensive trips. Oh look. Democrats and corruption. In other news, experts say water is wet.
Bowser has repeatedly claimed that her domestic and international travels are all part of economic development efforts, but public records are raising some serious questions. There are reportedly no expense filings for Bowser’s administration for trips made to the Masters Tournament, Las Vegas, Miami, Mar-a-Lago, Dubai, or Doha, despite several of these trips having been financed by third-party entities, including private organizations and other countries.
Yeah, that doesn’t look shady or anything.
“In one case, the report alleged that Bowser’s office initially claimed the D.C. Chamber of Commerce paid for her participation in the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai. The Chamber flatly denied that claim. Days later, Bowser’s communications director pivoted, saying that the U.S. Conference of Mayors had footed the bill, yet that group declined to confirm any such arrangement and deferred instead to the mayor’s team,” the Daily Caller reported.
A central issue involves Bowser’s 2023 trip to Doha, which is the capital of Qatar, where documents obtained by 7News through a Freedom of Information Act request show the Qatari government paid for travel costs for Bowser and four staffers, describing it as an “in-kind donation.” Under D.C. law, such donations must be formally submitted, reviewed, and approved before acceptance, but no such process took place.
Bowser’s office sent a letter in February 2025 asking Qatari officials for a breakdown of the $61,930 they covered for her 2023 trip in order to draft a donation agreement. D.C. rules set by her own administration, however, require such agreements to be submitted and approved before accepting any donation, not retroactively.
There’s nothing that looks worse on a Democrat’s record than receiving financial gifts of any kind from the leaders of foreign nations, particularly Muslim-led ones. As we know all too well, the radical left loves the Islamic community, more so than their own, despite how often we’ve tangled with the less-than-savory element within that people group.
“The mayor’s Chief of Staff Lindsey Parker, who also took part in the Middle Eastern trip, reportedly submitted a lone receipt showing a $3,500 taxpayer-funded stay at the luxury Atlantis-Palm hotel in Dubai. The rest of the expenses remain undocumented in the District’s public records,” the report added.
When 7News reporter Scott Taylor confronted Bowser about the lack of financial transparency with her administration, she dodged the question like Neo from The Matrix. Taylor applied a bit more pressure about her failure to include key trips in her financial disclosures and city expense logs, to which the mayor responded, “We’re talking about the inaugural today, and we’re happy to get back to you on any other questions.”
This isn’t the first time Bowser has been put under the microscope for potential financial corruption. She was slammed like Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania III over using a private jet provided to her by real estate executive and donor Jodie McClean to attend The Masters golf tournament in April 2024 as her city was turning into a violent, bloody landscape ripped right out of a Mad Max movie due to spikes in crime.
Later on, McClean’s company said it would foot the bill and seek reimbursement, but there was concern over possible conflicts of interest because of the business ties the firm has with the city.
