There are a whole lot of despicable human beings in the realm of American politics, but none sink as far below pond scum as California Democratic Sen. Adam “Shifty” Schiff. He’s truly earned that nickname too. Schiff’s been busted in a number of fabrications concerning President Donald Trump and finally, this week, he got called on it.
With just three words, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin, a former congressman, made Schiff blow his top. The California senator proceeded to throw a toddleresque temper tantrum as a result. Clearly, Zeldin understood the assignment.
A battle of the minds between Schiff and Zeldin took place during a hearing by the Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee. During the verbal fisticuffs, Zeldin referred to the senator as an “aspiring fiction writer.”
This is a dig at Schiff for lying through his teeth on a frequent basis. Zeldin just earned 50 gold stars for this zinger. Many of the false claims the senator has made concern alleged collusion between Trump and Russia during his 2016 campaign and first presidential term.
“By the way, I understand you are an aspiring fiction writer,” Zeldin fired off as he looked through a document to take a look at the grant.
“The House of Representative passed a resolution by Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida that censured Schiff over his pushing of claims that Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russia in 2023. The Steele Dossier, which was used to further allegations of collusion, was later discredited, with special counsel John Durham finding that the FBI “did not and could not corroborate” the claims from the dossier in his report,” The Daily Caller reported.
“Then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy removed Schiff from the House Intelligence Committee in January 2023, citing his claims regarding Trump and Russia as one of the reasons for the removal,” the report continued.
“Oh, yeah. Well, I understand your view that you can cut half of the agency and it won’t affect people’s health, or their water, their air. That, to me, is a big fiction, Mr. Zeldin,” Schiff replied, talking over Zeldin, who then brought up the topic of the wildfires that ravaged parts of Los Angeles.
“I think Mr. Zeldin, if your if your children were drinking water, if your children were drinking water in Santa Ana, Mr. Zeldin, maybe you wouldn’t be so cavalier about whether there was lead in their water,” Schiff prattled on. “Maybe you would give a damn instead of coming in here and suggesting that any grant that takes lead out of the water must be waste, fraud or abuse, because you need the money for a tax cut for rich people, because you’re totally beholden to the oil industry. You could give a rat’s ass about how much cancer your agency causes.”
Nothing is as satisfying as watching a despicable liar like Schiff get taken to task for his behavior. I hope to see a lot more of that over the next few years.
