Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is claiming he has enough members of the House GOP to throw a road block in front of President Donald Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” and as you can imagine, this isn’t sitting well with the many folks in the MAGA movement.
Massie said he currently has a “vote bloc of 10” GOP members of the House who will join him in voting against the bill. President Trump and Massie have been getting in back-and-forth bouts of verbal fisticuffs for a while over the legislation. Trump referred to the Kentucky Republican as a “simple-minded grandstander” and a “lightweight congressman.”
And congressman’s stance on the “Big, Beautiful Bill” has made him a whole lot less popular with voters too it seems. A recent poll delivered some bad news to Massie, indicating there’s a strong possibility he could end up losing his seat in the midterm elections.
Check out more from Newsweek:
Polling from Kaplan Strategies found that Massie was unpopular among Republican voters and would lose more support if Trump endorsed a primary opponent. Massie has gained notoriety in recent weeks following a series of skirmishes with Trump. The Kentucky lawmaker has voiced his opposition to the president’s “big, beautiful” spending bill and has criticized Trump over his decision to strike Iran.
In response, Trump has denounced Massie, prompting the president’s allies to launch a super PAC to oust the representative, who has held his seat since 2012. The poll of 368 likely GOP primary voters found that 19 percent said they planned to vote for Massie in the 2026 Republican primary. If Trump endorsed a primary opponent, the proportion of people voting for Massie would drop to 14 percent.
The poll showed that a total of 23 percent of those who responded to the survey viewed Massie favorably, while 63 percent viewed him unfavorably. That’s not a good look, ladies and gentlemen.
When it comes to his battles with the president, 72 percent of respondents said they were less likely to vote for Massie due to his opposition to tax cuts and budget, while 58 percent said they were less likely to vote for him due to his opposition to the president policy regarding the nation of Israel.
On June 24, 2025, Trump said of Massie, “Third Rate Congressman Thomas Massie, of the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky, a phenomenal State that I won all three times (by a lot!), keeps talking about how he is going to protect the Constitution, but he is actually very bad for the Constitution, and will probably vote against ‘THE GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,’ that grants the Biggest Tax Cuts in History, secures our Southern Border from Criminal Invasion, funds the Golden Dome, our Great Military and Veterans, protects our Second Amendment, grants NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME, and NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY (for our Great Seniors!), and so much more.”
Massie fired back on X by posting, “@realDonaldTrump declared so much War on me today it should require an Act of Congress. #sassywithmassie.”
Okay, I have to admit it. That’s a good one.
The general election for Massie’s congressional seat is set for November 3, 2026.
